Some may have heard we were selected as 1 of 102 nationwide 2017 American Small Business Champions! This is an honor and nice to be recognized for our business struggles and growth. The competition was sponsored by Sam’s Club and SCORE. Here’s a link to our ‘application’.
If you haven’t heard of SCORE and have a small business, you want to know SCORE. In a nutshell: “SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground, grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship.” Anyone can use their services and request a Mentor. You didn’t have to win or even enter the contest. All trainings and online resources included – FREE.
Winning entitled us to an all-expenses paid training day in Dallas, Texas which was April 26. We will be matched with a SCORE Mentor. Recieve a year of publicity and a $1,000 gift card to Sam’s Club for business needs. Then 3 of us will get an additional $25,000 in September based on: effective use of our gift card and utilization of the media to raise the perception of public to the American Small Business Championship, our business, and SCORE.
Training in Dallas
I really enjoyed meeting fellow winners in Dallas – they covered a wide spectrum counselors, restaruants, artists, craft beer and ghost tours were in our Mid-west Regioinal winners. There was a ton of information shared that will assist us in growing our business. Still waiting to be matched with our SCORE Mentor, so taking things slow. We’ll share tips and insights learned as we use them.
We’ve spent some of our Sam’s Club gift card on marketing banners and GoPro for future marketing videos, safety equipment and a 40 Volt chainsaw for trimming logs at the sawmill and using in the bucket truck. We’ll have future posts showing items in use and detail how they’ve helpd make us more efficient or increased our outreach.
