Trees2Products

Wood products do not only come from massive and large forested tracts in the western states, lake states, the South or New England. Wood products can come from the tree in your yard. The trees in your windbreaks. The tree in the park or school yard.

All trees have a life span, just as you and I. Many things could shorten the life span and care from us can lengthen the life span.

What can shorten the life span of trees we are in most contact with:

  • lightning strike and other storm damage
  • drought over extended period of time
  • nailing items to it/attaching barbed wire
  • insect and disease, especially non-native/introduced pests
  • soil compaction/construction in root zone – could be as simple as parking under the tree compacts the soil reducing water absorption abilities

What can lengthen:

  • deep watering during drought around drip line (under edges of leaf crown), not just watering the grass
  • pruning to maintain structure and reduce damage in ice storms
  • don’t park under the tree
  • don’t harm bark/roots with lawn mowers or weed trimmers – remove turf for 36″+ (circle) from trunk and put down 2-4″ wood mulch

Another resource for caring for your tree(s) is the Arbor Day Foundation.

When the tree has lived that life and is possibly now a hazard to life or property, it can become one to many wood products for you, your family or a stranger. We will facilitate the utilization. Dream up a project from picnic table to wall clock, from book case to wine rack….. we’ll mill the trunk and sometimes large branches into wood that can be used to make your dream. If you don’t want to build yourself, if you don’t have a craftsman to build your dream, we will do so or find someone that can.

Call us after you schedule the tree removal, we can try to coordinate milling on site or picking up log for milling later. Any hardwood log not immediately placed on the sawmill will have the end/branch wounds sealed with a wax-like product to reduce splits and checks that could degrade the lumber.

Small material should be mulched. Medium material or large sub-par can be firewood. It all going to the tree dump or waste pile isn’t necesary. If you don’t want it, we’ll take it for someone else’s dream project.
